About the SJTA
The SJTA has been in operation since 1962 and is one of the largest Junior Tennis Associations in country Victoria. The SJTA in 2009/10 has 18 Clubs, 86 Teams and 600 plus players involved.
A Brief History of the Shepparton Junior Tennis Association
The first recorded minutes of the Shepparton Junior Tennis Association are of a meeting held in 1962 at the Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club Clubhouse.
Present were 16 interested persons present. Mr Vin Seir (St Mels) was elected President, Miss Manley(St Augustines) was elected Vice-President, Mr. L. Walker (St. Brendans) – Secretary/Treasurer. (no committee)
The first season consisted of 16 teams – Shepp Lawn 2A and 3B teams, St Augustines 1A & 1B, Shepparton North 1B, Cosgrove South 1B, Bunbartha 1B, St Mels 1A and 1B, St. Brendans 1A and 1B, Methodists 1A, Mooroopna 1B.
The Lawn Robins were the Premiers in A grade and St.Brendans the B grade.
A Constitution on the lines of the Shepparton & District Tennis Association was presented to the 1973 AGM.
